I See You

I see you.

I know you feel guilty daily. I know that even after the hours of research, appointments and phone calls you still feel like you didn’t do enough. Your child still isn’t potty trained, the house is still a mess, your kid will not sit down at the table for more than 30 seconds to interact with you.

But, I see you.

I know you are frustrated beyond words. I know somedays you go into the bathroom, lock the door and sit on the bathroom floor. You sit silently and let the tears fall because you just can’t take another Minute of meltdowns and therapy.

But, I see you.

I know this isn’t the life you imagined. You pictured t ball games, ballet recitals and play dates. Instead your schedule is full of speech, ABA, OT and IEP meetings. You pictured your house being the place for all the friends and big birthday parties. Instead, you prepare and map out every move before it happens.

But, I see you.

And do you know what I see?

I see a warrior. I saw the small miracles that happened today. I saw your child flush the toilet, a small step. I saw you prepare a table time activity and your child looked your way, a small step. I see steps leading you higher than you thought your child could go. How many steps doesn’t matter, the direction doesn’t matter. The destination is what matters, and I see you putting in the time EVERYDAY to get your child there. You are a fighter.

Do you know what else I see?

I see strength. I saw you put up with that script fifty times before you stopped. I saw you struggle in therapy for hours before you took ONE SECOND for yourself. I saw the kicks, the head banging, the screams that you handled with patience and grace until you made it to the bathroom floor. You are strong.

Do you know what else I see?

I see acceptance. I saw you gave up the life you THOUGHT you wanted and replace it with new adventures and places to discover. You are an innovator.

Mom, you are are changing lives. You are making a difference. You are creating a new future. Keep trekking. Keep moving forward. Stay strong because:

I see you.
