Each month we try to change up our pretend play area so that the boys an experience several different “experiences.” This week we changed our “Valentine Shop” into our “Clover Café.” Our Clover Café has all the things you would find at a typical café. Hot chocolate, muffins, donuts and fruit!
We purchased the St. Patrick’s Day themed muffins from a friend who knitted these beautiful muffins for us! Each piece comes apart so the boys can practice baking them and putting them together again and again. We also have the opportunities to talk about the different items found around St. Patrick’s Day with the Leprechaun hat, pot of gold and rainbow. Books are the best way to teach this! Check out our Favorite March Books to see what we use to teach our kids about this holiday!
Our wooden donuts are small but durable. These are a little smaller than what I wanted for our café but these would be PERFECT for a tea party pretend play. Check them out here.

Let them have a seat at the clover café, place their order and then pay! This has been a great way to continue to work on math. We tried to keep all of the items low priced so that Vincent (5) is able to add up the money that he needs to purchase.

After, they have ordered. One child could bake the food in the kitchen and bring the food out to the child at the table! This lets them practice their communication skills, their addition and their patience as they wait for their food! Pretend play helps us learn SO many different skills!
