It’s amazing when you finally see evidence based practice to back up what you have been saying for years….

My first passion is bringing awareness to autism and trying to educate others about the techniques we have used to best help our boys! However, my second passion is nursing. So I appreciate evidenced based practice and all it entails.
I found this article in a physician scientific journal and was relieved.
Relieved that now providers can read and be shown through science EXACTLY what I have been saying for 3+ years.
We know our kids best.
You can have therapist come in and out of your home. But who educates those therapist? Who lets them in on the little quirks? Or what works best and what works helps to keep their attention? YOU.
At first, we went full force. Therapies in full swing, just as my medical professionals had suggested. To be honest, I don’t regret this at all! I have a handful of therapist that taught me SO much. They taught me when Max needed his weighted vest or when he could use deep pressure, but I continued to study every night when they left my house. I quickly learned about my specific children and found the best techniques to help them INDIVIDUALLY.
We have gone down from 40+ hours of therapy a week and IEPs through our school district where they received special education and therapies to less than 4 hours of therapy a week and homeschooling.
We made the change because our children NEEDED one on one. They needed individualized lesson plans daily and now I can provide them with that.
You know them best. Keep fighting for them.
