Day 1 of no ABA… and let me tell ya. It feels SO good! We have been a slave to therapy since Vincent was 2.. everyday.. for several hours…
Over the last 2 weeks sickness hit our house hard and went through every one of us. The longer these kids went without therapy… the more they started to act like… well kids 🤷🏽♀️
So for the first time in 3 years we decided to take control. We canceled ABA services indefinitely, freeing up several hours a week.. for our kids to be kids!
Will we still need to do things a little different? Absolutely.
Will we need to work in heavy work and sensory play? Absolutely.
Will I have to continue to educate myself on sensory processing and speech? Absolutely.
But now my kids get to be kids.. I get to be mom and not a window shopper while 50 different therapist are in my home.
Do what works for you! But the 50+ hours of therapy they “suggested” for my children at time of diagnosis was NOT for us. And it doesn’t have to be for you either. YOU know your child best. Educate yourself and then educate them ❤️💛💙
So today I got to be MOM! We did “therapy” on our own time, in our own schedule. Here are our 5 activities from today!
1. Play dough Christmas tree

Supplies:
-Green play dough
-Different color pom poms
-Snowflake stickers/jingle bells
-Christmas tree cookie cutter
2. Elf Scavenger Hunt

Found this fun Christmas/winter themed scavenger hunt in the target hot spot! Threw the card in a plastic sleeve so it’s reusable and taped the elves all around the play room. It was a huge hit!

3. Fingerprint Christmas Booklet
Got this activity booklet from Usborne! Vincent has an aversion to several textures so we are trying to do more activities that are hands on. I was very impressed that he got his fingers dirty here!

4. Snowball Fight
Found these “indoor snowballs” at big lots for $10! They were a hit!

5. Felt Christmas Tree
$15 felt Christmas tree from Amazon! We will take this down and redecorate it several times this holiday season. I really like to work on choices “snowflake or present?” with this activity. My boys are still working on making choices on their own. This was a great activity to get them to discover their own creativity!
